Required SVSH Prevention Trainings

As part of a campus-wide effort to prevent and address sexual violence and sexual harassment, all UC students and employees are required to complete sexual violence and sexual harassment (SVSH) awareness and prevention education courses. For information about sexual violence and harassment awareness and prevention education requirements, visit the UC Education and Training page and the Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination education and training website.

3. Complete live prevention education training facilitated by your department and partners in the PATH to Care Center.

Graduate Student Instructors (GSIs)

  • Must be completed within 90 days of hire.
  • Continuing employees who newly become supervisors must complete this training within six months of assuming supervisory responsibilities.

Complete online training, which alternates annually between:

1. Online 2-hour "UC Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment Prevention for Supervisors, Faculty and MSP"" (course code: AB1825-BE-ECO). Access via the UC Learning Center.

2. Online 35-minute "Preventing and Responding to Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment (SVSH): Supervisors, Faculty, MSP Refresher" (course code: BE-SVSH SUPPLEMENTAL-ECO). Access via the UC Learning Center.

Additional training requirements

Employees with certain job functions, and students with certain roles in student organizations and activities, are required to complete supplemental sexual violence and sexual harassment prevention education in addition to their regular job training and the minimally required trainings listed above. The following lists a few, but not all, of the roles requiring additional training and information about how to receive the supplemental training. Please contact the Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination with questions about SVSH training requirements.

Campus Security Authorities (CSAs, as defined by the Clery Act)

Individuals who are Campus Security Authorities (CSAs) must complete the online course "Clery Act Training for CSAs" via the UC Learning Center.

Residential Life employees, including Resident Assistants (RAs)

Duty staff (ADs, RDs, SRDs, RAs, SRAs, and TPRAs) must attend a 2-hour training called "Responding to Disclosures of SVSH" which is presented by staff from the Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination, the PATH to Care Center, and Residential Life.

For student staff, this training is required for every employment period they are employed with Residential Life. Professional staff must attend the training minimally once a year as a refresher. Residential Life staff have additional optional training opportunities with the PATH to Care Center staff.
All Residential Life employees also receive prevention and response training as part of their regular job training. 

Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) and Greek Life 

Registered Student Organizations (RSOs)

Organization Advising & Student Involvement Services (OASIS) provides requirements for registering your student organization, which includes SVSH prevention training. 

New for 2023-24: The OASIS team and ASUC have been working with OPHD and Path to Care to incorporate Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment (SVSH) prevention and response efforts amongst Registered Student Organizations (RSOs). A new RSO Constitution clause has been introduced into Article III Membership: RSO SVSH Prevention and Response. This clause is optional for the 2023-24 academic year and will be mandatory beginning Fall 2024 in order to receive university recognition. We recommend RSOs be proactive in incorporating this new clause at any time during the 2023-24 academic year. 

Student groups who adopt the RSO SVSH Prevention and Response clause agree to adhere to the guidelines described in the RSO Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment (SVSH) Prevention and Response Policy which aligns with the University of California’s Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment PolicyThe RSO also agrees to send at least one representative to participate in a PATH to Care workshop annually.

Greek Organizations

The Fraternity and Sorority Life team advises the Interfraternity Council (IFC), the Multi-Cultural Greek Council (MCGC), the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), and the Panhellenic Council (PHC), with which all recognized Greek organizations are affiliated. Chapter presidents and at least one other executive officer are required attend the semesterly Social Risk Management training, which includes SVSH prevention training. IFC and PHC have agreed to the self-imposed requirement that at least 80% of their chapter members attend a workshop about SVSH prevention and response each semester. These workshops have been led by PATH to Care or Greeks Against Sexual Assault (GASA).

Intercollegiate Athletics 

The NCAA Board of Governors Policy on Campus Sexual Violence and the California State Auditor require that all Intercollegiate Athletics (IA) student-athletes, coaches, and staff are educated each year on sexual violence prevention, intervention and response, to the extent allowable by state law and collective bargaining agreements. IA partners with the PATH to Care Center and the Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination (OPHD) to satisfy education requirements.

All student-athletes must complete mandated online training. All Intercollegiate Athletics department coaches and administrative staff must complete an online program. All new student-athletes are also trained in the Bears that CARE bystander intervention program.

Additional educational programs and tools will be made available annually.

UHS Healthcare Professionals (Clinical and Non-Clinical)

All healthcare workers employed by the UC must complete training every two years. Please note that healthcare workers must complete this training in addition to their regularly assigned training as UC employees on preventing harassment and discrimination. The completion of this course does not substitute for the completion of any other required course. Clinical personnel: You are required to complete the "SVSH Professional Boundaries" (UCLOL0067) course every two years. The course duration is approximately 50 minutes. You can access the course via the UC Learning Center.

Non-clinical personnel: You are required to complete the "SVSH Boundaries Awareness" (UCLOL0074) course every two years. The course duration is approximately 20 minutes. You can access the course via the UC Learning Center
